If you don’t mind these things, go ahead, “I’m with Stupid” offers a fair bit of good comedy, but if you do, you may wanna give this one a skip. Yes, these are probably oversights, but as an autistic trans girl, it did make me a little uncomfortable. A fair bit of ableism can be seen, with SpongeBob’s behavior as he acts “stupid”, and a few instances of transphobia might be visible when SpongeBob wearing a blouse and having long frilly eyelashes are seen as “dumb”. Yeah, they’re probably oversights, but I feel like they still should be addressed. This definitely allows for some good comedy.Īdmittedly, Patrick’s behavior in this episode can be jarring, since he goes to thinking SpongeBob actually is stupid pretty quickly, and there are a few things I found in this episode that could be potentially offensive. Some of SpongeBob’s behavior in this episode is entertaining, yet even more entertaining than his behavior when he’s “stupid” is him snapping at the end, even though no one else is convinced, as he ends up running away screaming. The beginning is especially entertaining, with the “note/letter”, and all the talk of the “funnel”. Janet and Marty remember they don’t even have a son, and walk away. He hears another doorbell ring, from Squidward, who has Patrick’s real mom and dad, who are glad to see their son. Janet and Marty feel glad to know how smart their son is, but when they exchange their names, Patrick is surprised, realizing that Janet and Marty weren’t even his parents. Marty starts talking to Patrick, speaking of how SpongeBob made Patrick look so much smarter. He runs through the wall screaming, out of the house. SpongeBob snaps, and tries to prove he’s smart, but Janet and Marty don’t believe him.

Janet and Marty, though, simply think that Patrick taught him how to do that. SpongeBob walks back into the living room, where he gives a speech about how he’s not a dummy. He decides he’s simply going to have to tell Janet and Marty themselves. SpongeBob tries to remind Patrick of the plan they had earlier, but Patrick simply brushes it off as something he made up. In the kitchen, SpongeBob tries to talk with Patrick, who is now convinced that SpongeBob is actually as dumb as he acts.

At this point, SpongeBob starts to feel upset, and asks to have a private conversation with Patrick. Patrick starts to insult him, but eventually gets into more personal things that are actually true, such as his appearance, how he dresses, and his eyelashes. Afterwards, he starts making siren noises, as Marty and Janet seem to think he’s “broken”, then he slaps himself across the wall just to nail in the point. He presses his nose, revealing his underwear a few times, and when he stops pressing his pants are pulled back up. SpongeBob shows up, pretending to have difficulty with communication, and they ask to see his house, which he rams his head into. “He lives in a fruit? That’s unhealthy,” the two visitors claim.Īt dinner, SpongeBob is standing over in the corner, acting like a fool, while Patrick, Marty, and Janet are all watching television. He grabs the beverages, which he actually was able to put in glasses, and hears another ring at the doorbell, which is from SpongeBob. They are surprised to see Patrick recognized them. He sees two people, presumably his parents, who he invites inside. We see Patrick preparing himself for a day with his parents, until he hears a doorbell, when he runs to the door. He explains that his parents never thought he was very smart, and SpongeBob tries to cheer him up, eventually deciding that they need to know what being dumb really is, so he will act stupid in front of Patrick’s parents. Patrick starts breaking down, giving SpongeBob a note, with a letter on the other side, and a message from his parents which talks about how his Parents are coming over for Starfish Day. He rants about how he sometimes needs to clean, but SpongeBob notes the only thing he’s ever seen Patrick clean is his plate. SpongeBob walks up wanting to jellyfish with him, but Patrick is too busy making the place look nice. This episodes begin with Patrick causing a ruckus in his house.
